Providing the perfect backdrop for unique educational opportunities right on Wanpa-rda’s doorstep “Wanpa-rda” is located within the spacious grounds of the Workers Heritage Centre (one of the 33 Queensland Heritage Trail Network Attractions), which is a museum styled complex celebrating Australia’s working history.
Our facility is ideally situated at the heart of a historically significant part of Queensland. Barcaldine is the location of one of the most significant upheavals in the history of Australia (the Great Shearers’ Strike of 1891), as well as being the location where Australia’s national song was written (Waltzing Matilda) and Australia’s national airline was formed (Qantas).
Our centre acts as a centralised base from which to conduct day trips to the many and varied educational, historic and cultural attractions within the Central Western Queensland region as well as utilising on-site assets and local bushland.
Surrounded by the diversity of outback environments, Barcaldine is also close to rich fossil and gem fields and unusual geological formations, offering students a wide range of outback environments to study and experience.
Located in the heart of the Central West on the Matilda Tourist Route, Wanpa-rda Matilda's excursion facility is designed to accommodate and cater for the needs of school children and their carers from all over the country.
The facilities at Wanpa-rda which are provided by the Australian Workers Heritage Centre and are unsurpassed in the Queensland outback.
